Solution

(a-1)^2 + a^2 + (a+1)^2 = 9749
=> a^2 -2a + 1 + a^2 + a^2 + 2a + 1 = 9749
=> 3a^2 + 2 = 9749
=> a^2 = (20174-2)/3 = 3249
=> a = 57
So the 3 numbers are 56, 57 and 58 and their sum is 171
