Muthuraman has 3 bags. He goes to a river to collect coconuts.
In each bag he can carry maximum 30 coconuts, so, in all 3 bags he can carry 90 coconuts. On his way back to home he has to cross 30 toll gates. The rules to cross the toll gates are as below:
- On each of the toll gate, as a tax the person has to give as many coconuts as the number of bags he is carrying

What is the maximum number of coconuts which Muthuraman can take home?

Solution

For first 10 toll gates he will carry all 3 bags and would give 10x3 = 30 coconuts

Coconuts left = 90-30 = 60

Beyond 10th toll gate, he will start carrying coconut only in 2 bags till he is left with 30 coconuts.

So for next 15 toll gates he will carry 2 bags and give 2 coconut at each toll gate

So Coconuts left = 60 - 15x2 = 30

Now, he will keep all coconuts in a single bag so that he has to give only one coconut at each of the remaining 5 gates gate.

Finally he would be left with 30-5 = 25 coconuts

After crossing 10 tolls, 30 coconuts will be reduced as Muthuraman will give 3 coconuts at each toll gate.
only two bags will be left with Muthuraman.
While crossing next 15 tolls, 30 coconuts will be reduced as he will give 2 coconuts at each toll gate.
After crossing 25 toll gates, only one bag with 30 coconuts will be left.
He will give 5 coconuts on remaining 5 toll gates and finally manage to bring 25 coconuts at home.

Gave 30 coconuts at first 10 toll gates.
Gave 30 coconuts at next 15 toll gates.
Gave 5 coconuts at last 5 toll gates.
Total 65 coconuts given at toll gates.
Left with 90-65=25 coconuts at home.

and 60 coconuts left in 2 bags.
Next 15 toll gates ..2 bags ..30 coconuts given and 30 coconuts left in 1 bag
At remaining 5 toll gates, gave 5 coconuts from 1 bag and left with 25 coconuts at home.

For the first 10 he uses 1 bag
For the next 15 he goes with 2 bags hence he gives 2 each from 1 bag. Finally he gives 1 each for the 5 as he has 1 bag.
Hence he keeps 25 with him.

For the first 10 tolls he pays 3 coconut each.
After ten tolls he has only two bags.
For the next 15 tolls he pays 2 coconut each.
After 15 tolls there is only 1 bag of coconut.
For the next 5 tolls he pays 1 coconut each.
The remaining 25 coconuts he takes home.

In the first till gate, he Gives 30 coconuts, 3 each in 10 toll gates,
next he has 2 bags with him.
so, he gives 2 coconuts each in 15 toll gates,
next, he has 30 coconuts in 1 bag, so he gives 1 coconut each in 5 toll gates and he is left with 25 nos for home.

to get in 2nd bag:

So,After 25 toll gates he will be left with one bag containing 30 coconuts
difference is 15-10=5
now,after 30 toll gates=30-5=25.
