In JEECAT exam, a student scores four marks for every correct answer and loses one mark for every wrong answer. If Jaggu attempts all sixty questions and secures 130 marks, the no of questions Jaggu attempted correctly is :

Solution

Let the number of correct answers be X.

Number of incorrect answers = (60 – X).

4x – (60 – x) = 130

=> 5x = 190

=> x = 38

4x-(60-x)=130

assume correct answer is X, and wrong answer is Y. then X+Y=60Treated as equation 1 . and 4X-1Y=130treated as equation 2. then solving both we get X=38. correct questions answering.

here he lost 110 marks,so 110/5=22 wrong answers and hence 38 are correct answers.
