In a race of 1.6 km, if A allows B a start of 160 m and the ratio of the speeds of A and B is 10:9, then which one of the following is correct?

Solution

As A allows B a start of 160 m, so B covers (1600-160) = 1440 m and A covers 1600 m.
Given ratio of speeds of A and B = 10:9 => When B covers 9 m, A covers 10 m.
.'. when B covers 1440 m and complete the race, A covers (10/9)*1440=1600 m.
Therefore, both reaches post at the same time.

Race distance is=1.6km
Ratio of the speeds 10:9
A gives B by =160m
So A should travel 1600m
And B should travel 1440m
Time taken =
1600/10=1440/9
So both reaches at the same time.
