For purchasing colours for Holi, Neel and Rajat went to market where colours were available in sachets. Neel purchased 5 Green, 3 Red and 9 Yellow coloured sachet and used up all his money while Rajat purchased 6 Green, 6 Red, and 18 Yellow coloured sachets and paid 60% more than what Neel paid. What percentage of the Neel's money was spent on purchasing Green colour ?

Solution

Let the total amount spent by Neel = x
Then, 5G + 3R + 9Y = x ----(i)
Also, spending of Rajat = 6G + 6R + 18Y = 1.6x ---(ii)
Multiplying Eqn (i) by 2, we get 10G + 6R + 18Y = 2x ---(iii)
Now subtracting Eqn (ii) from (iii), 4G=0.4x or G=0.1x
Neel's spending of Green colour 5G = 0.5x = 50% of x

Let Meel Purchased with ₹100,Rahat for 160
Prices of Green ,Red,Yellow are x,y,z
5x+3y+9z=₹100
6x+6y+18z=₹160
2(5x+3y+9z)-(6x+6y+18z)=₹200-₹160=₹40
4x=40=>x=10
Meel brought 5 Green which costs ₹50 out of ₹100
So the cost=50% of total expenditure
So my option is 8👈

Let's say, for Neel,
5g + 3r + 9y = 100 Rs. (i)

Then for Rajat,
6g + 6r + 18y = 160 Rs. (ii)

Divide equation (ii) by 2 and subtract the new equation from equation (i)
We get, 2g = 20 that is g = 10 Rs.
Neel bought 5 sachets of green that is 50 Rs.
Thus he spent 50% of his money on green color.
