In 2 digit numbers : 9,
In 3 digit numbers : 18 + 162 = 180,
In 4 digit numbers : 2187 + 486 + 27 = 2700,
in 10000: 4 zeros;
so total = 9 + 180 + 2700 + 4 = 2893

The formula for counting the number of zeros between 1 and (10^n)-1 is: n*10^(n-1)-{(10^n)-1}/9
Here, n=4.
So, number of 0 from 1 to 999 is= 4*10^3-{(10^4-1)/9}= 4000-1111= 2889 and from 1 to 10000 is= 2889+4= 2893..... Option 2)
