Ans: Profit, 2.5%
Cost Price of both things = Rs. 24.00
Selling Price of first thing = 12*125/100 = Rs.15.00
Selling Price of second thing = 12*80/100 = Rs.9.60
Selling price of both things = Rs. 24.60
Profit = Selling Price - Cost Price = 60 Paise
Profit % = 60/2400*100 = 2.5%

Total selling amount=Rs 24
Total purchasing amount
Let x be the purchasing amount of 1st item and y be the purchasing amount of 2nd item.
Then, x+25% of x=12 => x=9.6
He purchased the 1st item at Rs 9.60.
Now, For 2nd item,
y-20% of y=12 => y= 15
He purchased the 2nd item at Rs 15.
So total purchasing amount=Rs 24.60.
Hence made a loss of (24.60-24)=Rs 0.60
Loss=((0.60/24)*100)=2.5%

2.43% is the right ans.we will find profit on cost prize which is 24.6 rs

They have given the selling price of both the items.

using the formula profit%=(sp-cp)/cp*100 and loss%=(cp-sp)/sp*100
For the first item the cost price is: 9.6
For the second item the cost price is: 15.
profit amount on first item is 2.4
loss amount of second item is -3
difference between them is -0.6
%loss is 60%

by bucket method
12*(+25)+12*(-20)=24*x
x=5/2=2.5%->here it is positive,hence there exists a profit of 2.5%

Loss of 0.6 is the correct answer as profit or loss is asked not profit or loss % :p
