After the elections, a firm conducted exit polls. Exactly 2% of the male voters said they had voted for candidate A, while exactly 59% of the female voters said they had voted for candidate A. If in total, exactly 17% of the people said they had voted for the Candidate. What is the minimum number of people who were surveyed?
OPTIONS

1) 17
2) 19
3) 323
4) 1700
5) 1900

Solution
Let total no. of people = n
males = x, females = n-x
according to the given condition
2x/100 + 59(n-x)/100 = 17n/100
or 2x + 59(n-x) = 17n
or 2x + 59n -59x = 17n
or 42n = 57x
or n = 57x/42
for finding minimum number of people, take x = 14 (here 14 is the least integer for which n is integer)
n = 57*14/42 = 19

A group consists of equal number of men and women. Of them 10% of men and 45% of women are unemployed. If a person is randomly selected from the group. Find the probability for the selected person to be an employee

Solution
if man is selected then probability of him to be employed = 10/100
similarly if women is selected then probability of her to be employed = 45/100
so probability = (1/2)(10/100)+(1/2)(45/100) = 2/40 + 9/40 = 11/40

A light bulb is hanging in a room. Outside of the room there are three switches, of which only one is connected to the lamp. In the starting situation, all switches are 'off' and the bulb is not lit. If it is allowed to check in the room only once to see if the bulb is lit or not (this is not visible from the outside), how can you determine with which of the three switches the light bulb can be switched on?

Solution
First on a switch for 5 min, then make it switch off and switch on the other, go to the room, if bulb is on then 2nd switch is answer, if bulb is off then touch the bulb if it is hot then 1st switch is answer, otherwise 3rd switch is answer.
