I walked into a shop with Rs.240 in my wallet and came out with a book, a pen and some chocolates and noticed that only Rs.40 left in my wallet.
I remembered the total amount spent on chocolates was 20 less than that of amount spent on book and pen, cost of pen was 30 more than that of book.
Can any one of you guess how much i spent on each item?

Remaining money= 240-40=200
Lets assume cost of book is X then cost of pen is X+30
Now money spent on chocolate is (X+X+30)-20=2X+10
Solving these
(X+X+30)+(2X+10)=200
=>X=40
So cost of book is 40 ,Cost of pen is 70 and cost of chocolates is 90

Solution:

Lets assume the capacity of the tank is x lit.
The filling rate of pipe A = x/37.5 lit/min
The filling rate of pipe B = x/45 lit/min

The tap is opened for the full time of half an hour i.e = 30 mins.
Lets assume tap B is opened for y mins.

Therefore tap A fills (x/37.5)*30 lits
tap B fills (x/45) *y lits
The total would be equal to the tank capacity.
Therefore (30x/37.5) + xy/45 =x -----> y/45 = 1-30/37.5 ---> y = 0.2 * 45 mins = 9 mins.

An easy way to do these types of questions is considering the question into glasses means consider here that B fills 45 glasses in 45 minutes so A has to feel the same in 37.5 minutes that is it feels 45/37.5 glasses per minute which is equal to 1.2 glasses per minute in 30 minutes tab A will feel 30×1.2 glasses, that is 36 glasses now tap B has to feel only 9 glasses which would take 9 minutes and it's the answer
