Twenty five sets of problems on data interpretation each for the DI section of 25 CATALYST test were prepared by the AMS research team. The DI section of each CATALYST contained 50 questions of which exactly 35 questions were unique, i.e. they had not been used in the DI section of any of the other 24 CTALYSTs. What could be the maximum possible number of questions prepared of the DI sections of all the 25 CATALYSTs put together???

To maximize number of unique question you have to simultaneously decrease the duplication of the question.
Hit and trial method.

1st 12 catalyst has 50 unique question= 12*50=600


but we can have only at the max 35 unique question per catalyst hence, next 12 catalyst have 35 unique question and 15 duplicated question from 1st 12 catalyst= 35*12=420

As we can only have 35 unique question hence, the last catalyst will have the 35 unique question

ANS : 600+420+35=1055

total no. of the unique number of questions-35*25=875so
so we need to make max no. of unique questions from the rest 15 Q of each set
so 12 sets of 15 questions repeated once= 15*12=180, we are left with 15 questions in the last 25th Test these cant be unique as already 35 are unique in the paper so, they are repeated questions second time.

Hence total max unique questions-875+180=1055.

Solution:

Lets assume the capacity of the tank is x lit.
The filling rate of pipe A = x/37.5 lit/min
The filling rate of pipe B = x/45 lit/min

The tap is opened for the full time of half an hour i.e = 30 mins.
Lets assume tap B is opened for y mins.

Therefore tap A fills (x/37.5)*30 lits
tap B fills (x/45) *y lits
The total would be equal to the tank capacity.
Therefore (30x/37.5) + xy/45 =x -----> y/45 = 1-30/37.5 ---> y = 0.2 * 45 mins = 9 mins.

An easy way to do these types of questions is considering the question into glasses means consider here that B fills 45 glasses in 45 minutes so A has to feel the same in 37.5 minutes that is it feels 45/37.5 glasses per minute which is equal to 1.2 glasses per minute in 30 minutes tab A will feel 30×1.2 glasses, that is 36 glasses now tap B has to feel only 9 glasses which would take 9 minutes and it's the answer
