Amit and Bharat can do a piece of work in 45 and 40 days respectively. They began the work together but Amit leaves after some days and Bharat finished the remaining work in 23 days. After how many days did Amit leave?

Solution

Bharat's 23 days work = 23*1/40 = 23/40.
Remaining work = 1 - 23/40 = 17/40
(Amit + Bharat) 's 1 day's work = 1/45 + 1/40 = 17/360
17/360 work is done by Amit and Bharat in 1 days
Therefore 17/40 work is done by them in 360/17 * 17/40 = 9 days
Hence Amit left after 9 days

x({1/45}+{1/40})+{23/40}=1
===>x=9

Bharat's 1 day's work is 1/40
Let Amit left the work after x days.
So,
x/45 + (x+23)/40 = 1
=> (8x + 9x + 207)/360 = 1
=> 17x = 153
=> x = 9

A/q, Bharat do remaining work in 23 days means 23*(1/40) work=23/40 then 1-23/40 work they do together =17/40
Then amit leave the work after (17/40)/(17/360)=9 days.

B can do the work in 40days therefore his one day work is 1/40
A and B together work per day will be (1/45+1/40)
Let they have done the work for x days and after that A left
The work done for the x days will be x(1/45+1/40)
The remaining work will be 1-x(1/40+1/45)
This work is done by B in 23 days then
23*(1÷[1-x(1/45+1/40)]=40
By solving we get x=9
Therefore A left the work after 9 days

A finished 360/45 =8 parts in one day;
B finished 360/40 = 9 parts in one day;
Both are finished 17 parts in one day;
23 days B only worked,
Total parts of the work is 360,
So, 23*9 + 17x = 360;
17x = 153
x = 9;
A leave after the 9th day.

Let's Amit=A & Bharat=B
(A+B)'s 1 day's work=[1/45+1/40]=17/360
=> workdone by B in 23 days=1*23/40=23/40
=>Remaining work=1-23/40=14/40
=>now, 17/360 work was done by (A+B) in 1 day
=>17/40 work was done by (A+B) in 1*360/17*17/40=9 days
Therefore A left after 9 days.

= (completed work)/(1 day work both can complete)

Amit completes 1/45 unit of work in 1 day and Bharat completes 1/40 unit of work in 1 day.
Bharat alone completed the remaining work in 23 days i.e. he did 23/40 unit of work so 17/40 unit of work was completed by Amit and Bharat both.
Amit and Bharat together completes 17/(40*9) unit of work in 1 day, so to complete 17/40 they require 9 days.
