P is able to do a piece of work in 15 days and Q can do the same work in 10 days. If they can work together for 2 days, what is the fraction of work left?

Solution

Amount of work P can do in 1 day = 1/15
Amount of work Q can do in 1 day = 1/10
Amount of work P and Q can do in 1 day = 1/15 + 1/10 = 5/30 = 1/6
Amount of work P and Q can together do in 2 days = 2 × (1/6) = 1/3
Fraction of work left = 1 – 1/3= 2/3

P&Q can complete (1/10+1/15=5/30) work in one day
In 2 days , they can complete, 10/30 or 1/3 work.
so 2/3 work is left after 2 days.

(P+Q)'s 1 day work = (1/15+1/10) = 1/6
So, their 2 day's work = 2*1/6 = 1/3

and Q is 1/10
So the amount of work done when both work together for two days is -
= 2*1/15 +2*1/10
=1/3
if we consider whole work to 1
remaining work =1-1/3

together they do 1/10+1/15= 5/30= 1/6 of work in 1 day.

If P completes work in 15 days,he completes 2/15 of the work in two days.If Q completes the work in 10 days,he will complete 2/10 of the work in two days.so the we can get the fraction of the work completed by both of them by adding 2/15 to 2/10. It gives us 50/150 which can be simplified into 1/3.so the work left is 2/3.
