P can do a work in 17 days. Q can do the same work in 8.5 days and R can do the same in 25.5 days. Q and R start the work and leave after 3 days. P finishes the remaining work in X days. What is the value of X?

Solution

Amount of work done by Q and R in 3 days = 3*(1/8.5 + 1/25.5) = 3*2*4/51 = 8/17

Amount of work remaining after 3 days = 9/17

Amount of work done by P in 1 day = 1/17
So for 1/17 work P takes 1 day
Hence for 9/17 work P would take (1/(1/17))*8/17 = 9 days

Tasks completed in 3 days by Q & R is 3*(1/8.5+1/25.5)
so, works left= 1- 3*(1/8.5+1/25.5)
So, P does the same in (1-3*(1/8.5+1/25.5))

Amount of work done by Q and R in 3 days = 3*(1/8.5 + 1/25.5) = 3*8/51 = 8/17
Remaining amount of work = 9/17
Now, Amount of work done by P in 1 day = 1/17
If 1/17 work is done by P in 1 day
So 9/17 work is done by P in 9 days
Value of X = 9 days

so p+q work for 3 days which will be 240 and remaining 270 will be done by p in

Let 1 be the total work. In 3 days, Q and R complete 0.47 part of work. Therefore 0.53 work was left for P to do. P takes 17 days to complete entire work so for completing 0.53 work he would take 0.53*17 i.e. 9.01 days approx 9.0 days

Both Q & R does this togetherly = (3/8.5 + 3/25.5)= 120/255
Work rests for P = 1-120/255 = 135/255

now, according to the question q and r work together for 3 days so, work completed by p and q in 3 days=3*2/17+3*2/51=24/51
hence remaining work that need to be completed by p is=1-24/51=27/51
now p can completes the work alone in 17 days.
