A merchant has 70 kg of sugar, part of which he sells at 3.5% profit and the rest at 10.5% profit. He gains 8% on the whole. The quantity sold at 3.5% profit is:

(Quantity of Cheaper)/(Quantity of Dearer) = (Price of Dearer - Mean Price)/(Mean Price - Price of Cheaper)

(Quantity of Cheaper)/(Quantity of Dearer) = (110.5 - 108)/(108-103.5) = 2.5/4.5 = 5/9

Total Quantity = 70 KG

The quantity sold at 3.5% profit is = (5/14) * 70 = 25 Kgs

(Quantity of Cheaper)/(Quantity of Dearer) = (Price of Dearer - Mean Price)/(Mean Price - Price of Cheaper)
= (10.5 - 8)/(8 - 3.5)
= 2.5/4.5
Total Quantity = 70 kg
Quantity sold at 3.5% profit = (2.5/7) * 70
= 25 kg

If we follow the allegation rule here then we can write the above data as below :

so the final ratio is 2.5:4.5= 5:9
so the quantity sold in 3.5% profit will be = 5/14 * 70 = 25 Kg.

Quantity of cheaper/Quantity of Dearer =(Price of Dearer - Price of Mean)/(Price of Mean -Price of Cheaper)
(110.5-108)/(108-103.5)=2.5/4.5
=5/9
The quantity of sugar sold at 3.5% profit=[5/(5+9)]*70
=(5*70)/14=25Kg.
Hence the Right option is 2👍.

Suppose the value of 1kg sugar is Rs. 10

So the value of 70kg sugar is Rs.700.

If we wanna to get 8% average profit so we need earn profit of rs. 56 on rs.700,

if we send 25kg sugar @ 3.5% profit then will earn rs. 258.75 And if we sale remaining sugar @ 10.5% profit then will earn rs.497.25.

so, 258.75+497.25 = 756

means we are earning net profit of rs. 56.

Hence option 2 is correct one

Let he buy 70kg of sugar @1rs/kg i.e. for 70 rupees
and he sold x kgs of sugar for 3.5% profit..then he get 0.035*x rupees profit on x kgs
And he sold remaining 75-x kgs for 10.5% profit...then he get 7.35-x*0.105 rupees profit
His total profit is..7.35-x*0.105+0.035*x=7.35-0.07*x rupees
He sold total quantity for 8% profit
((7.35-0.07*x)/70)*100=8
183.75-1.75*x=140
X=25kg

3.5*x+10.5*(70-x)=560
On solving we get x = 25

Let price of 1kg sugar is 100 rs and x kg sold at 3.5% interest and rest 70-x kg at 10.5% intrest.
then--

103.5x+(70-x)*110.5 = 70 * 108
