A can do a work in 6 days and B in 15 days. If they work on it together for 3 days, then the fraction of the work that is left after 3 days is :

Solution

A's 1 day's work = 1/6
B's 1 day's work = 1/15
(A + B)'s 1 day's work = 1/6 + 1/15 = (5+2)/30 = 7/30
(A + B)'s 3 day's work = (7/30)*3 = 7/10

Therefore, Remaining work = (1 - 7/10) = 3/10

Amount of work A can do in 1 day = 1/6

Amount of work B can do in 1 day = 1/15

Amount of work A and B can do in 1 day = 1/6 + 1/15 = 7/30

Amount of work A and B can together do in 3 days = 3 × (7/30) = 7/10

Fraction of work left = 1 – 7/10= 3/10
so, the right ans is (1) i.e. 3/10
