A tank can be filled by a tap A in 10 hours, whereas it can be emptied by tap B and tap C in 6 hours and 12 hours one by one. If all the 3 taps work together, then total time taken for making a fully filled tank empty will be (in hours)

Solution

total tank filled by tap A in 1 hour = 1/10 part
similarly water drained by tap B in 1 hour = 1/6 part
and by tap C = 1/12 part
so total drained water in 1 hour = 1/6 + 1/12 - 1/10 = 3/20
so total time taken = 20/3 hours

when all taps are opened together
1/6+1/12-1/10 =18/120
thus time taken is 120/18=6.67

tap B and C can be emptied (1/6+1/12) 1/4 of the tank in 1 hour.
now, tap {A+(B+C)}'s 1 hour work=1/4-1/10=3/20
Since 3/20 of the tank is empty in 1 hour whenever three taps are working together
Hence,Tank will be emptied fully in 20/3 hours
That is in 6.67hours.

for emptying the tank time taken by tap B and C together: 1/6+1/12=1/4. hence in 4 hrs tank can be emptied with both the taps.
now for filling it fully: 1/4-1/10=6/40 i.e. 40/6=6.67 hrs.

Total work=60
A's 1 hour work=6(60/10)
B's 1 hour work=10(60/6)
C's 1 hour work=5(60/12)
A&B&C's 1 hour work=(10+5)-6=9
The tank can be emptied in 60/9=6.6 which is the 7th option.
