Ramesh went to a bank with a cheque. He had no money with him. He handed over the cheque to one of the bank tellers. The bank teller was in a confused state of mind and cashed the cheque. He gave Ramesh as many rupees as those of paise he had to give and as many paise as those of rupees he had to give. Ramesh took the amount and left the bank. He then bought a chocolate for 75 paise from a shop nearby. He then observed that he was left with an amount which was the excess of the amount on the cheque over the amount he received from the teller. Find the sum of them number of rupees and paise on the cheque.

together can put 19 bricks in one hour....10 bricks less so for 1st hour only 10 bricks
for 2nd hour 28 n next 47 n so on
by last 5th hour it is 80
so 10+28+47+66+80=231 bricks

Tips to Score Good Marks in English Section

In English section of amcat exam , there will be two passages. Each passage has 2-3 questions. So you need to read and understand the meaning of passage very carefully without wasting much time on it , you should not take more than 2 min to read the passage otherwise you can not complete the questions in given time. Once you read and understand the passage, start attempting the questions. If you are getting unable in answering some questions please do not stuck, it is advisable to move ahead and attempt next questions.

P.S: We recommend that you should not skip passages, it is a scoring section

Tips to Score Good Marks in Logical Reasoning Section

For the logical section in AMCAT, You should follow the R.S. Aggarwal Verbal Reasoning Book and have a good practice on
statement & arguments section,
Data Sufficiency,
Directional sense,

Tips to Score Good Marks in Aptitude Section

For Aptitude section, you can rely on R.S. Aggarwal Aptitude Book and along side you should practice on indiabix . Sections you need to do more practice are

G.S.Kantharao   9 years ago
Ratios are 1:2, 2:3,3:4
Let the volume each =105 (l.c.m of 1+2,2+3,3+4)
If they were mixed completely then water proportion is (105*1/3)+(105*2/5)+(105*3/7)
That means water proportion is 122/315
Let x be the water to be added
(122+x)/(315+x) = 50/100
(122+x)/(315+x)=1/2
2(122+x)=(315+x)
244+2x=315+x
x=71
The proportion is 71/(315+71)
71/386

Your answer is B. This is how it is.
Let x,y,z are the strengths. Then 60x + 70y/(x +y) = 64 => 2x = 3y
Similarly 70y + 80z = 76 => 3y =2z=> x = 3y/2 = z.
For sections a, c average = (60x + 80z)/(x + z) = 140/2 = 70

Hi admin,

Please tell me where I am wrong.

Regarding Today's Puzzle solution dated 19.09.2016:

Method 1:
Add +3 and +30 alternatively and we will get the answer 119+3=122. Option 10)

Method 2:
53;
53 -> 3+3=6 => 56;
56 -> 5+3=8 => 86;
86 -> 6+3=9 => 89;
89 -> 8+3=11 => 119;
Similarly, 119 -> 9+3=12 => 1112. Option 10)

I think everyone who chose Option 10 with right explanation, should get marks. Please consider it.

The perimeters of respective squares are =32, 16root2,16,.......
It is in Geometric progression. Sum of infinite series in G.P= a/(1-r).
Where a first term , r is comon ratio. Here a =32 r= 1/ (root2)
Sum of perimeters is = 32/{ 1 - (1/ root2)} =32 root2/(root2-1)
= 32 root2(root2+1)/(2-1)
=64+32root2 = 64 + 45.248 =109.248 cms.

It is 3975.Let a,b,c,d are the digits a+b=c+d,and a+b+c+d >20
2(a+d)=b+c
It means a+b+c+d=3(b+c)>20
It means sum of a,b,c,d should be the multiple of 3. It should be even because (a+b)=(c+d). Hence it is 24.
a+b = 12
They may be (3,9),(4,8)(5,7) and vise versa.
c+d also12. They may be (9,3),(8,4),(7,5).
The number is 3975 which satisfies the given condition.

Fasting is an act of homage to the majesty of appetite. So I think we should arrange to give up our pleasures regularly--our food, our friends, our lovers--in order to preserve their intensity, and the moment of coming back to them. For this is the moment that renews and refreshes both oneself and the thing one loves. Sailors and travelers enjoyed this once, and so did hunters, I suppose. Part of the weariness of modern life may be that we live too much on top of each other, and are entertained and fed too regularly. Once we were separated by hunger both from our food and families, and then we learned to value both. The men went off hunting, and the dogs went with them; the women and children waved goodbye. The cave was empty of men for days on end; nobody ate, or knew what to do. The women crouched by the fire, the wet smoke in their eyes; the children wailed; everybody was hungry. Then one night there shouts and the barking of dogs from the hills, and the men came back loaded with meat. This was the great reunion, and everybody gorged themselves silly, and appetite came into its own; the long-awaited meal became a feast to remember and an almost sacred celebration of life. Now we go off to the office and come home in the evenings to cheap chicken and frozen peas. Very nice, but too much of it, too easy and regular, served up without effort or wanting. We eat, we are lucky, our faces are shining with fat, but we don’t know the pleasure of being hungry any more.
2. Too much of anything--too much music, entertainment, happy snacks, or time spent with one’s friends--creates a kind of impotence of living by which one can no longer hear, or taste, or see, or love, or remember. Life is short and precious, and appetite is one of its guardians, and loss of appetite is a sort of death. So if we are to enjoy this short life we should respect the divinity of appetite, and keep it eager and not too much blunted.
Directions: Respond to each of the following questions in 1-3 sentences.
1. Lee’s central argument about “appetite” is that:
a. it is a “weariness of modern life”
b. everyone should “gorge themselves silly”
c. it “creates a kind of impotence”
d. it is a “pleasure of being hungry”

2. Looking at the first sentence of the passage, “homage” most closely means:
a. Pain
b. Honor
c. Frustration
d. Beauty

3. When Lee says, “and loss of appetite is a sort of death,” she most nearly means:
a. If you are not hungry, you will die because of a lack of food.
b. If you are not hungry, you cannot appreciate the gift of food.
c. If you are too hungry, you die because you don’t have enough.
d. If you do not become excited for food, you cannot appreciate the gift of food.

4. When Lee says, “Part of the weariness of modern life may be that we live too much on top of each other, and are entertained and fed too regularly,” she means:
a. Life is less fulfilling when it’s too easy and underappreciated.
b. We need to have more space to live because we are becoming overpopulated.
c. We need less entertainment because we are becoming corrupt.
d. Life is tiring because we have too many people that we have to entertain.

Visualization is a technique where you use visual imagery like images, diagrams and
animations to communicate a message. Where large amounts of information needs to be
communicated, visualization helps to make sense of the information much better than
other techniques of communication.
Your challenge is to understand various ways of visualizing data and use that knowledge
to communicate to us. As the youth of the country, you represent the citizens of
tomorrow. We wish to understand your aspirations.
1. Visualize how you would like to spend the income you earn over the next 30 years.
What will your top 5 expenditures be?
2. Visualize how you would like your home (where you live) to look like 30 years from
now. Feel free to include any detail you wish (possessions, animals, people etc.)
3. Visualize how you would like the city/town/village that you would like to live in to
look like? Please give the name of your village/town (including the state and country),
and your vision for the place after 30 years.
4. Visualize your daily diet. (For eg. roti and daal) Visualize the nutritional value of the
food you described.
5. What food would you would like to see on your plate on a daily basis 30 years from
now. Visualize the food and the quantity of food. What would you like the next
generation of youth to eat.
