Diagonal d = 1/2
d = a*sqrt(2), where a is the side
===> a = 1/(2*sqrt(2)) units

Therefore area of overlapping portion of 2 squares = a^2
= 1/8 square units

Area of the 2 squares = 1^2 + 1^2
= 2 square units

Subtracting the overlapping portion, area covered by the 2 squares
= 2 - 1/8
=15/8 square units
