F(n) is a function...where f(f(n))+f(n)=2n+3.
F(n)=0;find f(2012) ?
Reply Like? Yes | No
ansar basha   12 years ago
f(1)=0,let n=1,
simplify the equation to
f(f(n))=2n+3-f(n)
substitute various values of n we get
f(0)=1
f(1)=2 n so on...
in general
f(n)=n+1
hence f(2012)=2013

. There are 10 stepping stones numbered 1 to 10 as shown at the side. A fly jumps from the first stone as follows; Every minute it jumps to the 4th stone from where it started - that is from 1st it would go to 5th and from 5th it would go to 9th and from 9th it would go to 3rd etc. Where would the fly be at the 60th minute if it starts at 1?
A. 1
B. 5
C.

so that remainder is i think may in the 7th step
Like? Yes (1) | No (2)
SONAM SAINI   12 years ago
as it is given that fly will start from 1 then jump to 5 then 9.
so,following this pattern for every three min. there a series
1 5 9 for first 3 min.
3 7 1 (6 min)
5 9 3 (9 min)
7 1 5 (12 min)
9 3 7 (15 min)
1 5 9 (18 min)
it is clear that this series is repeating after 15 min.
so 60/15=4. hence after completing the above series upto 15 min. 4 times. on 60th min fly will be on 7th stepping stone.
so. Ans is 7

your answer is A(1).from your question I assume all 10 stepping stones are laying in a circle.
since, there are 10 stones in a circle so, each stone makes 360/10=36degree b/w any two stones.
now, a/c to your question, fly makes 4*36=144degree per minute.
so,after 60 minute it makes 60*144=8640degree.
now, we all know that 360degree makes at a point, i.e, if we move on a circle and when we make 1 full round then we make 360degree.
now, when fly makes 8640degree it makes 8460/360=24 full round. means at 60th minute fly in on the initial point i.e, it is on 1st stone.

(1X^1+2X^0)(2X^1+5X^0)=3X^2+3X^1+3X^0
(X+2)(2X+5)=3X^2+3x+3
2X^2+5X+4X+10=3X^2+3x+3
X^2-6X-7=0
If we solve this we get,
(x+1)(x-7)=0
x=-1;x=7
therefore ans is 7..

Professor absentminded has a very peculiar problem, in that he cannot remember numbers larger than 15. However, he tells his wife, I can remember any number up to 100 by remembering the three numbers obtained as remainders when the number is divided by 3, 5 and 7 respectively. For example (2,2,3) is 17. Professor remembers that he had (1,1,6) rupees in the purse, and he paid (2,0,6) rupees to the servant. How much money is left in the purse?
option
A. 59
B. 61

@ SARANYA
i dont know the correct procedure but i got the answer by a process
it might be helpful to u
LET THE AMOUNT HE HAD BE X
IN THE QUESTION IT IS GIVEN THAT WHEN X IS DIVIDED BY 3,5,7 LEAVES REMAINDERS 1,1,6
LETS TAKE THE LAST NUMBER I.E 7
X%7=6...I.E THE NUM IS 7Y+6
POSSIBLE VALUES OF Y ARE FROM 1 TO 13
THEN X MAY BE FROM 13,20,27,....76,83,90,97
THEN DIVIDE THE ABOVE NUMS BY 3 AND 5 THE NUM WHICH LEAVES REMAINDERS 1,1 IS THE REQUIRED NUM
this might look like a big process but you can calculate the num in your mind.
HOPE THIS IS HELPFUL
THANK U

IF A is 1st A_ _ _ _ _ _= 6!=720 we need only 55 so
AH_ _ _ _ _=5!=120 then
AHK_ _ _ _=4!=24 it is the last letter of AHK SO
AHN_ _ _ _=4!=24 (24+24=48) WE NEED 55
AHS_ _ _ _=4!=24(48+24=72) so the ans is in AHS
LET AHSK_ _ _=3!=6 (48+6=54)
so the 55th letter should be AHSNKUV

A and B are two stations 300 km apart. Two trains T1 and T2 start from A and B respectively, towards each other at the same time. T1 reaches B nine hours and T2 reaches A four hours after they meet. Find the difference between the speeds of T1 and T2.
(a) 10 km/hr (b) 15 km/hr (c) 20 km/hr (d) 25 km/hr
Reply Like? Yes | No
ravi   12 years ago
let in time t T1 goes x km & T2 goes 300-x km.
So, x/t=(300-x)/9
x=300t/(t+9) .......eq.1
in same way, (300-x)/t=x/4
x=1200/(4+t)......eq.2
300t/(t+9)=1200/(4+t)
t=6
hence , diff. b/w speeds is 10 km/hr
