The entrance ticket at the Inox theatre in Chennai is worth Rs 250. The sale of tickets increased by 50% when the price of the ticket was lowered. However, the collections recorded a decrease of 17.5%. The price of the ticket is reduced by how much rupees?

(a)Rs150 (b)Rs112.50 (c)Rs105 (d)Rs120

Solution
Let total tickets sold = x
When sale increases, total tickets sold = 1.5x
Previous cost of the ticket = 250

According to the given condition
1.5x(250-y)/250x = 82.5/100
or y = 112.5

The total expense of a boarding house is partly fixed and partly variable with the number of boarders. When the number of boarders is 25, then the charge is Rs 70 per head and the same is Rs 60 when the number of boarders is 50. What would be the charge per head if there are 100 boarders?

Solution
According to the given condition x + (y/25) = 70 , x + (y/50) = 60
on solving we get y = 500 and x = 50
fixed charge = 50 and remaining 500 rupee of income will be distributed among all the boarders so in last case charge = 50 + (500/100) = 50 + 5 = 55

The ratio of incomes of C and D is 3 : 4 and their expenditures is 4 : 5. If the savings of C is one fourth of his income then what is the ratio of savings of C and D?

Solution
According to the given condition
3x - 4y = (1/4)3x
=> (3/4)3x = 4y
=> 9x = 16y
=> x/y = 16/9
so ratio of savings = (3x - 4y)/(4x - 5y) = (3*16 - 4*9)/(4*16 - 5*9) = 12/19

Solution
Methods to arrange all the letters leaving A = 8*7*6*5*4*3*2*1/(2*1)*(2*1)*(2*1)= 5040
Now between these 8 letters , there are 9 places so methods to place A and A in these positions = 9*8/2*1 = 36
thus total methods are 5040*36 = 181440

Rs. 4536 is divided among 4 men, 5 women and 2 boys. The ratio of share of a man, a woman and a boy is 7: 4: 3. What is the share of a woman?

Solution
Ratio of the share of a man, a woman and a boy is 7:4:3
No of men, women and boys are 4, 5, 2
Thus effective ratio of men, women and boys is 7*4 : 4*5 : 3*2 = 28 : 20 : 6
so part of women = (20/54)* 4536 = 1680
so part of 1 woman = 1680/5 =336
