Spores of a fungus, called late blight, grow and spread infection rapidly. These pathogens were responsible for the Irish potato famine of the mid-19th century. These seem to have attacked the tomato crops in England this year. The tomato crops have reduced and the price of the crop has risen up. The price has already gone up to $45 a box from $27 a box a month ago. How much more would a vegetable vendor need to pay to buy 27 boxes this month over what he would have paid last month?

A boy wants to make cuboids of dimension 5m, 6m and 7m from small cubes of .03 m3. Later he realized he can make same cuboids by making it hollow. Then it takes some cubes less. What is the number of the cubes to be removed?
a) 2000 b) 5000 c) 3000 d) 7000

please explain

Solution
volume of the small cube = 0.03 m^3
so side of this cube = cubic root of 0.03 m^3 = .312 m
so after removing the outermost layer the dimensions for the inner cuboid will be (5-2*0.312), (6-2*0.312), (7-2*0.312)
so total volume will be (4.376)*(5.376)*(6.376) = 150 m^3
so no of cubes will be 150/0.03 = 5000
so we can remove 5000 inner cubes

a hare & a tortoise have a race along a circle of 100 yards diameter.the tortoise goes in 1 direction & hare in another.after the tortoise has covered 1/5th of its distance & that is too leisurely.the hare & tortoise meet when the hare has covered only 1/8 th of the distance.by what factor should the hare increase its speed so as it to tie the race?
5
8
37.80
40

please explain

Solution
let total distance to cover=x
nw first tortoise goes x/5
after dat when they meet together,
hare goes x/8
and so tortoise goes x-(x/5+x/8)=27x/40
so, ratio of tortoise and hare=27x/40 : x/8=27:5
nw to tie up the incresed fctor of spped of hare be v
then,

(x/8)/27=(x-x/8)/5v
or, 1/27=7/5v
or, v=(27*7)/5=37.80

anup managed to draw 7 circle of equal raddi with their centres on the diagonal of a square such that the two extreme circle touch two sides of the square and each middle circle touches two circle on other side.find the ratio of the radious of the circle to the side of the square.

(2+7root 2):1
1:(2+7root 2)
1:(2+6root 2)
1:(4+7root 3)

please explain

Solution
Draw an square, and make 7 circles in the diagonal in such a way that two corner circles could touch the two sides of the square.
Let the length of the side of the square and radius of the circle are respectively a and r. Then diagonal of the square = a(sqrt2)
since this diagonal contains 7 circles and a bit extra length in both the corners so relation will be
a(sqrt2) = r(sqrt2) + r + 2r*5 + r + r(sqrt2)
or a(sqrt2) = 2r(sqrt2) + 12r
or r/a = (sqrt2)/[2(sqrt2) + 12]
or r/a = 1/[2 + 6(sqrt2)]

(#M40000867) TCS QUESTION Keep an EYE Keep an eye puzzle Keep an eye puzzle

. Given a collection of points P in the plane, a 1-set is a point in P that can be separated from the rest by a line, .i.e the point lies on one side of the line while the others lie on the other side.
The number of 1-sets of P is denoted by n1(P). The minimum value of n1(P) over all configurations P of 5 points in the plane in general position(.i.e no three points in P lie on a line) is

a)3 b)5 c) 2 d)1

Solution
The meaning of this question is little complicated. In easy language the question should be:

There are some points in the plane. We have to make a separation between these points by forming a line in such a way that one point could be separate from the others. No 3 points are in a line. Maximum no of methods for plotting the line and minimum no of methods for plotting the line will be (arrangement of points is your choice)

Now Answer Is:

For Maximize: The number of methods, Points should be drawn in the circumference of the CIRCLE So answer would be the number of total point in the plane.

For minimize: The number of methods we should draw 3 points in a TRIANGLE and all other point inside this triangle in such a way that no 3 points could be in a line.

If it will be allowed to draw the points in a line then minimum possibilities will be 2 only, because if we take all points in a line then you can separate only the corner points from the others.

For example
If we have 10 points then maximum possibilities = 10
and minimum = 3

similarly for 5 points
Max = 5, Min = 3

for 19
max= 19 Min = 3

Then size of the smallest set of people such that the rest have shaken hands with at least one person in the set is
a) 13 b) 18 c) 11 d) 12

Solution
Answer 12 is correct.
because if we take person a1 in the set then it will cover a36 and a2 for shaking hand.similarly if we take person a4 in the set then it will cover a5 and a3 for shaking hand and so on, so minimum 12 persons are required to make shake hand with rest of the people complete
