Mr. Sonkar says to his son Suresh, " My age was two years more than 7 times of your’s age before 30 and 1/2 a year and after 2 and 1/2 a year, my age will be twice of yours age of 1/2 a year before". What will be the age of Suresh after 12 and 1/2 a year.

Solution

Let the present ages of father and son are "x" and "y" respectively.
According to the first condition given
(x - 30.5) = 7 ( y - 30.5 ) + 2 (i)
According to the second condition given
(x + 2.5) = 2 ( y – 0.5) (ii)
On solving these equations we get the solution.

from given
7(y-30.5)+2=(x-30.5)
2(y-0.5)=(x+2.5)
By solving this we get x=67.5 & y=67.5
After 12.5 years their ages will be x=80 y=48...

Let x be the present age of Suresh and y Mr.Sonkar

y - 61/2 = 2 + 7*(x - 61/2) ---(1)

y + 5/2 = 2*( x - 1/2) ---(2)

Solving (1) and (2)
x = 35 and 1/2

So after 12 and 1/2 a year
Suresh's age = 48

Solving (1) nd (2), we ll get
f = 135/2

If F & S are ages of Sonkar and Suresh, then
(F-30.5)= 7*(S-30.5)+2
(F+2.5)= 2*(S-0.5)
solving these eqns, we get
S= 35.5 yrs
so age of Suresh after 12 and 1/2 a year will be 35.5+12.5=48 yrs

Then according given conditions
We have y-30.5=7(x-30.5)+2
y+2.5=2(x-0.5)
Solving we get x=35.5

x-30.5=2+7(y-30.5) and x+2.5=2(y-0.5)
solving these two, we get, x=67.5 and y=35.5

From the given data equations will be:

t - 30.5 = 7(s - 30.5) + 2 ---- (1)
