Pramod travels for 14 hours 40 min. He covers one half of the journey by train at 60 kmph and the rest half by road at 50 kmph. The total distance traveled by him (in km) is

Let total distance be x km, Then,

avg speed = 2ab/(a+b)
= (2*60*50)/(50+60)
= 54.54
total time taken = 14hr 40min
= 14.66hr
distance = avg speed * time
= 54.54 * 14.67
= 800km

so,

=>60x=((44÷3)-x)×50
=>x=20/3
thus the distance travelled in first half=(20/3)×60

time taken for frst half distance = x/(2*60) as speed is 60kmph
time taken to travel 2nd half is x/(2*50) as 2nd half is travelled at the rate of 50 kmph.
now total time taken this way is (x/(2*60))+(x/(2*50) =44/3 (as total time given in the question)
on calculating the eqation x=800
