100 students appeared for two examination. 60 passed the first, 50 passed the second and 30 passed the both. Find the probability that a student selected at random had failed in both the examination?

(A) 1/5 (B) 1/7 (C) 5/7 (D) 5/6
Reply Like? Yes | No (1)
Devendra Marghade   3 Months ago
Number of passed only in 1st = 60-30 = 30
Number of passed only in 2nd = 50-30 = 20
Total passed atleast in one exam = 30 + 20 + 30 = 80
Total failed in both = 100 - 80 = 20
Therefore required probability = 20/100 = 1/5

Both failed =100-(60+50-30)=20
Probability=20/100=1/5

If WAIT + ALL = GIFTS; Then what is the value of G+I+F+T? (If A =6 & S=5)
Reply Like? Yes | No
Devendra Marghade   1 year ago
9 6 0 8
+ 6 7 7
---------
10285
=> W=9, A=6, I=0, T=8, L=7, S=5, G=1, F=2, T=8
So, G+I+F+T=1+0+2+8=11

In a election between two parties P and Q, Q is loser. If Q get 25% more votes then he win by the thrice the majority then that of P. If the total number of votes are 4250. How many vote did P get? 1)2250 2)1125 3)2000 4) 1525.. please give solution
Reply Like? Yes (3) | No
Devendra Marghade   3 years ago
3) 2250

Total votes = P + Q = 4250 ---(i)
When Q is loser, majority of P = (P - Q)
When Q gets 25% more votes, then votes of Q = Q + 0.25Q = 1.25Q and votes of P = (P - 0.25Q)
According to given condition, 1.25Q - (P - 0.25Q) = 3*(P - Q)
=> 4P - 4.5Q = 0 ---(ii)
On solving equations (i) & (ii), Q=2000, P=2250

As per given ststement, Q is the looser.
From given options, only 2250 votes for P satisfies this condition.
No need to waste time to solve in detail while appearing for multiple choice questions test in limited time.

2, 35, 104, 209, ? .. what will be next after 209. Please explain with logic

Satyam   4 years ago
2, 35, 104, 209

Difference between 2nd and 1st, = 35 - 2 = 33

Between 3rd and 2nd = 104 - 35 = 69

Between 4th and 3rd = 209 - 104 = 105

Now, difference between the values obtained -

69 - 33 = 36

105 - 69 = 36

It is clearly seen that the difference is increasing by 36.

So, the next number in the series will be = (105 + 36) + 209

= 141 + 209

= 350

Hence, the next number in the series is 350
