40/42

let distance be d and time interval be t

distance covered by tom in one jump=d/7
distance covered by jerry in one jump=d/5

time taken by tom for one jump=t/8
time taken by jerry for one jump=t/6

speed=distance/time

toms speed=(distance covered in one jump)/(time taken for one jump)
=(d/7)/(t/8)=8d/7t
similarly,
jerrys speed=(d/5)/(t/6)=6d/5t

toms speed/jerrys speed=(8d/7t)/(6d/5t)=40/42

The ratio of number of balls in bags x, y is 2: 3. Five balls are taken, from bag y and are dropped in bag x. Number of balls are equal in each bag: now. Number of balls in each bag now is?

a) 20 b) 30

25

If initially there were 2a & 3a balls in bag x and bag y respectively, then
3a-5=2a+5
a=10
So number of balls in each bag now=3a-5 or 2a+5 =25

Q: 3 shirts cost 1000 on purchasing of 3 shirts shop keeper allows one shirt for free of cost. what percent of discount was allowed ? I NEED SHORTCUT METHOD
Reply Like? Yes (2) | No
Devendra Marghade   4 years ago
33.33%

On purchasing of 3 shirt, discount equivalent to one shirt=1000/3 is given, so % discount allowed=100*(1000/3)/1000=33.33
Like? Yes (1) | No
Rishu   4 years ago
25%

mp of 3 shirts=1000
mp of 1 shirt=1000/3
sp of 4 shirts=1000
sp of 1 shirt=1000/4=250
% discount=[(mp-sp)*100]/mp=[(1000/3-250)*100]/(1000/3)=25%

Q: Find the sum of the first 40 terms of the series 12 - 22 + 33 - 42 + ......

a) 820 b) -820 c) 870 d) -870
Reply Like? Yes (1) | No
Rishu   4 years ago
b) -820

the whole series is like below:
Sn=12-22+33-42+45-62+66-82+78-120+99-122+111-142+132-162+144-182+165-202+.....
the above series consists of three independent series:
(1) it starts from 12 with a common difference of 33 and has 10 terms
Sn1=12+45+78+111+.....=(10/2)*(2*12+(10-1)*33)=1605
(2) it starts from -22 with a common difference of -20 and has 20 terms
Sn2=-22-42-62-82-.....=(20/2)*(-22*2+(20-1)*(-20))=-4240
(3) it starts from 33 with a common difference of 33 and has 10 terms
Sn3=33+66+99+132+.....=(10/2)*(2*33+(10-1)*33)=1815

thus, Sn=Sn1+Sn2+Sn3=1605-4240+1815=-820

a) FXMBIU

1__H+1=I
2__O+1=P
3__N+1=O
4__E+1=F
5__S+1=T
6__T+1=U
for PIFOUT sequence is 214365
similarly
1__W+1=X
2__E+1=F
3__A+1=B
4__L+1=M
5__T+1=U
6__H+1=I
arranging right hand side in the same sequence(214365), we get:
FXMBIU

202=22+(n-1)*10
180=(n-1)*10
18=n-1
n=19

22 + 32 +.......... + 202=19*(22+202)/2=2128
