An empty tank be filled with an inlet pipe ‘A’ in 42 minutes. After 12 minutes an outlet pipe ‘B’ is opened which can empty the tank in 30 minutes. After 6 minutes another inlet pipe ‘C’ opened into the same tank, which can fill the tank in 35 minutes and the tank is filled. Find the time taken to fill the tank?
Reply Like? Yes | No
Krishnendu Lakshman   12 years ago
Let the time to be taken x min, to fill the tank. so,
1st inlet pipe filles (1/42) of tank in 1 min.
2nd outlet pipe filles (1/30) of tank in 1 min.
3rd inlet pipe filles (1/35) of tank in 1 min.
now, we know that the 2nd pipe opens 12 min later; and 3rd pipe opens 18(=12+6) mins later.

To fill the tank, the 1st pipes contribution is x/42
To fill the tank, the 2nd pipes contribution is (x-12)/30
To fill the tank, the 3rd pipes contribution is (x-18)/35

The equation becomes...
[{x/42}-{(x-12)/30}+{(x-18)/35}]=1

solving the equation we get the result, x=58.5

time taken to fill the tank is 58min 30sec.

A completes a work in 20 days B in 60 days C in 45 days. All three persons working together on a project got a profit of Rs.26000 what is the profit of B?
Reply Like? Yes (4) | No
Bholanath    12 years ago
In one day all can work =1/20 + 1/60 + 1/45= 4/45
%work by B =({1/60)/(4/45)}*100=18.75
so total profit gain by B=26000*18.75=4875

pravallika   12 years ago
1 day work of a,b,c is 1/20:1/60:1/45=9:3:4
b share =3/16*26000=4875

Madhu pericherla   12 years ago
x=1,2,3,4 are roots of given equation then
k(x-1)*(x-2)*(x-3)*(x-4)=p(x)=ax4+bx3+cx2+dx+e
put x=0 then k*(-1)*(-2)*(-3)*(-4)=p(0)=48
while solving above equation we will get k=2
now put x=5 then P(5)=2(5-1)*(5-2)*(5-3)*(5-4)=2*24=48(so ans is 48)

Sruthi karuturi   12 years ago
In 1st two hrs Tim travels 30km and Elan 15km
now they have a distance of 45km and here they meet in 30km
Hence 30+30=60km

RAMASAMY   12 years ago
Ans 60km
for 1st hour tim walk 10 km
after 1hr speed is double
2nd hr he walk (10+20)km
total distance covered by 2 person after 2 hr is 45
in next 45 min they walk entire distance
then 3rd hr tim walk 30 km
tim distance=60 km
time=2 hr 45 min
