x+y = 5 (x-y) => x + y = 5x – 5y
=> 6y = 4x
=> x/y = 3/2
=> x = 3y/2 (i)
And x2 + y2 = 208 (ii)
On taking the value of x from eq. (i) in eq. (ii), we get
(3y/2)2 + y2 = 208
=> 2.25y2 + y2 = 208
=> y2 = 208/3.25 = 64
=> y = 8
x = 3y/2 = 12
Difference = 4
A man got 60 % profit over investment in a business whereas 50 % loss in second over investment. If total profit is 60000 rupee,
then the ratio of first and second investment is (Given that the investment in second business is 200000 rupee.)
According to the given condition
0.6 x – 0.5 y = 60000
6 x – 5 y = 600000
On dividing by y
6 (x/y) – 5 = 600000/y
6 (x/y) – 5 = 600000/200000
6 (x/y) – 5 = 3
6 (x/y) = 8
x/y = 8/6 = 4/3
