Can any one help me to solve this....
. A girl entered a store and bought x flowers for y dollars (x and y are integers). When she was about to leave, the clerk said, “If you buy 10 more flowers I will give you all for $$2, and you will save 80 cents a dozen”. The values of x and y are:
a. (15,1)
b. (10,1)
c. (5,1)

keerthika   9 years ago
option (c) is correct.
1 dollar=100 cents
When x=5 & y=1 dollar=100 cents,
the cost of one flower=20 cents,
so,the cost of 15 flowers=(15*20)=300 cents
But the shop keeper is giving 15 flowers for 2 dollars(ie 200 cents)
so 100 cents is saved
It is given that we can 80 cents for a dozen means we can save(80/12 =6.66cents) for one flower
so 15*6.66=100 cents.

sp of 400 lts of milk at 20rs is 8000 + remaining 100 lts he added 10 lts of water and sold at 1650 = 8000+1650 = 9650
cp of mineral water is 10 per litre.. and he used totally 210 lts of water = 2100rs
adding all cp = 5700 + 2100= 8000 rs
total sp is =9650

The age of Shaurya and Kauravki is in the ratio 2:6. After 5 years, the ratio of their
ages will become 6:8. Find the average of their ages after 10 years.

keerthika   9 years ago
current age=2x/6x
age after 5 years=(2x+5)/(6x+5)=6/8
so 20x=10
x=0.5
current age of shaurya & kauravki is 1 &3 respectively ...so after 10 years it will be 11 & 13 respectively
the average is (11+13)/2=12

probability that first 4 digits of the code are even numbers =[(4*3*2*1)^2]/8! = 24/(8*7*6*5)=1/70

It takes 140 minutes to copy 480 files onto a server using one back-up device. To speed up the process, a second identical back-up device is added and used to copy half of the files. If the first device starts operating at 9:00 p.m. and the second device starts 15 minutes later, what time will it be when all 480 files have been copied onto the server?

140 min to copy 480 files to 1 backup device.
Now 2 backup devices.
1st backup device for copying half of the files - 70 min
2nd backup device for copying half of the files - 70 min
2nd backup starts after 15 min. So 9:15 + 70 min = 10: 25 PM

jenna walks from her office to home in an hour and then cycles back to office at 10 mph.alaric makes the same trip but does so at an average speed that is twice the average speed of jenna.if the distance between jenna office and home is 8 miles ,how much time does alaric spend on his round trip....is thr any solution for this problem? Thanks in advance

Jenna speed from office to home = 8/1=8
Jenna avg speed (2×8×10)÷(8+10)= 80/9
alaric avg speed = 2 jenna avg speed = 2×80/9.

Alaric avg speed = total distance coverd/total time;
160/9 = 16/ total time;
Total time = 16×9/ 160 hour = 16×9×60/160 = 54 minutes
