17 hrs

20 m --------- 50 s -------- 8 h
20x(3/4) m--- 50x(3/4) s---8 h (*Less men=less saplings)
15 m ---------- 75/2 s --------8 h
For 75/2 saplings, 8 hrs, so for 80 saplings = 80x8/(75/2) hrs=256/15 ~ 17 hrs.

Two pumps can be used for pumping corrosive liquid. A pump with a brass impeller costs $1200
and is expected to last 3 years. A pump with a stainless steel impeller costs $2850 will last 5 years.
A rebuild costing $450 will be required after every 2000 operating hours for the brass impeller
pump, while an overhaul costing $1050 will be required for the stainless steel pump after every 8000
hours. It is estimated that the operating cost of each pump is the same at $1.50 per hour. The
company applies a discount factor of 10% to its projects.
For the scenario described below, determine the minimum number of hours per year that the
more expensive pump must be used to justify its purchase. Clearly show the method you have
used. State and comment on any assumptions you have made and the reasonableness of your
method and answer.

In how many different ways can the letters of the word 'MATHEMATICS' be arranged such that the vowels must always come together?
Reply Like? Yes (1) | No
jeet   8 years ago
In the word 'MATHEMATICS', we treat the vowels AEAI as one letter.

Thus, we have MTHMTCS (AEAI).

Now, we have to arrange 8 letters, out of which M occurs twice, T occurs twice and the rest are different.

Number of ways of arranging these letters = 8! = 10080.
(2!)(2!)
Now, AEAI has 4 letters in which A occurs 2 times and the rest are different.

Number of ways of arranging these letters = 4! = 12.
2!
Required number of words = (10080 x 12) = 120960.
Like? Yes (1) | No
jyothi chhabria   8 years ago
(AEAI)MTHMTCS=8!/2!*2! ; HERE 2!*2! is for twice the repeatation of Mand T
internally vowels can be arreanged in 4!/2!; here 2! is for 2 A's
therefore total number of ways of arranging is 8!*12=120960

The population of a town is 18000. If it increase by 10% during the first year and 20% during the second year, the population after years will be??
Reply Like? Yes | No
jeet   8 years ago
10% of 18000 is 1800
After first year the population is 18000+1800
The total population becomes 19800
In second year the population becomes 20% of first year
So 20% of 19800 is 3960

19800+ 3960 gives 23760
the population after 2 years is 23760

Sum of x1,x2,x3,x4 - Sum of x2,x3,x4 is 64 - 46 = 18.

Reply Like? Yes | No (1)
~Sandeep~   8 years ago
Let's assume number of buffalo be b, cow be c and goat be g

As per question:
b+c+g =19
Multiplying with 2
2b + 2c + 2g = 38 ---- (i)

Also
5c + 2b + 0.25g = 49 ----(ii)

(ii) - (I) we get
3c - 1.75 g = 11 ---- (iii)
Trying different values in equation (iii)
g = 4 is the first value which will make 1.75g a whole number so
3c - 1.75*4 = 11
c = 18/3 = 6
When c = 6 and g =4 then b= 9

Note : Next value of gr which will make 1.75g a whole number is 8 but then value of c will be 25/3 which is not a whole number. Similarly other values of g can be ruled out.

Reply Like? Yes (2) | No

Let the cost of X brown sharpners is ₹. XY
Remaining (18 - X) white for ₹(18-X) Y+ (18- X)=(18-X) (Y+1)
Total amount= ₹. XY+ ₹. (18-X) (Y+1)= ₹100
18Y- X+18= 100
18Y -X= ₹82
Y=₹5,X=8
Means Each Brown Sharpner is₹5
No. Of Brown Sharpners= 8
White Sharpeners= 10@ ₹6 each.

10 white sharpeners for Rs. 6 each

Let white sharpeners be w, then brown sharpeners are (18-w)
Let the cost of each brown sharpeners be Rs. x, then cost of each white sharpeners is (x+1)
So total cost =w(x+1) +(18-w)x =100
=> 18x + w =100
As w can be between 1 and 18, so x=5 & w=10.
Hence white sharpeners=10 & price of a white sharpeners=(x+1)=Rs. 6

0.75 kg fish for Rs 15
0.25 kg onion for Rs 0.25
19 kg sugar for Rs 4.75

20F+O+S/4=20
F+O+S=20
19F=S*3/4
F=(S /19)*(3/4)
If S=19, F=3/4
Then O=1/4

I have certain no. Of marbles to divide equally among the 18 boys. If the no. Of marbles and the no. Of boys each were increase by two, each boy would receive 5 marbles less. How many do I have to distribute.

~Sandeep~   8 years ago
Case-1
No of boys = 18
No. of Marbles = x

No. of marbles each boy gets = x/18 ----(i)

Case-2
Incrased no. of boys = 20
Increased no. of marbles = x+2

No. of marbles each boy gets after increasing by 2 = (x+2)/20 ----(ii)

As per question boys receive 5 less marbles in case-2 when compares to case-1
So No. of marbles each boy gets after increasing by 2 = (x/18) - 5 ----(iii)

Equating (ii) and (iii)
(x+2)/20 = (x/18) - 5
(x+2)/20 = (x - 90)/18
18x+36 = 20x - 1800
=> 2x = 1836
=> x = 918

So in case-1 you should distribute = 918/18 = 51 marbles
and in case-2 you should distribute = 51-5 = 46 marbles

A study conducted by the personnel manager of a major computer software company says that 39% of the employees who left the firm within two years did so primarily because they were dissatisfied with their salary.  41% left because they were dissatisfied with their work assignments, and 12% of the former employees indicated dissatisfaction with both their salary and their work assignments.  What is the probability that an employee who leaves within two years does so because of dissatisfaction with salary, or dissatisfaction with work assignment or both?

Platinum is sold in bars of weights ranging from 17 grams to 1760 grams in 7 gram increments. Each bar is sealed in an opaque box weighing 47 grams . The box used for packaging has no marks on it indicating the weight of the bar inside.
The precious metals merchant selling the boxes has put the packed bars into shelves based on weight. However , to be certain , he weighs the packed box in an equal arms two pan balance, and a set of weights( which is common for all the bars and which he considers as “standard” weights.). Each of these weighs an integral number of grams, and have their weight marked on them. The merchant, a superstitious man, always places the packed box of platinum on the left pan, and places the appropriate weights in the left pan or the right pan or both until balance is achieved. This suffices hi m to tell the weight of the packed bar.
What is the minimum number of “standard” weights the merchant must have to be able to accurately determine the weight of all his packed boxes? how
