What will be the difference of the amounts in the two types of saving given below
1) 20 rupee per day upto 100 days
2) 25 paisa then 50 paisa then 75 paisa then so on upto 100 days
Reason. In first saving total amount = 20*100 = 2000 rupee
In second, savings of 50th and 51st days are 12.50 and 12.75 rupee
(These two are middle terms) (or by solving AP method)
Total saving in second case = 100*{(12.50 + 12.75)/2} = 1262.50 rupee
Difference is 2000-1262.50 = 737.50 rupee
option 3)
40 % of birds in a tree went to other place and half of the remaining died. On multiplying the number of remaining birds to 30, It became a perfect square number. What will be the least possible number of birds
let no of birds be x
then 60 % of the birds = 0.6x
half of this = 0.3x
so if we multiply remaining to 30 we get 30*0.3x = 9x
it will be an integer only if x is integer
so we have to select x in such a way that x, 0.6x and 0.3x would be integers
and the least possible value for this will be 100
A man bought a certain number of toys for Rs.180, he kept one for his own use and sold the rest for one rupees each more than he gave for them. Besides getting his own toy for nothing he made a profit of Rs.10. Find the number of toys.
Let the number of toys = x
Cost of each toy = 180/x Rs.
Now no. of toys sold = x-1 and selling price of each = (180/x)+1
He sold the toys for (x-1){(180/x)+1)Rs.
His profit is 10 Rs.
(x-1){(180/x)+1}-180 = 10
solve
x= 20 and -9
rejecting -9
20 toys were bought
option 3)
Student of a class are made to stand in rows. If 4 student are extra in a row, there would be 2 rows less. If 4 student are less in a row, there would be 4 more rows, find the number of student in the class.
Le no of rows = x and no of student in each row y
total no of student x*y
By given condition
(x-2)(y+4)=xy (i)
(x+4)(y-4)=xy (ii)
Solve
x=8, y=12
no of student = 12*8 = 96
option 7
The essence of mathematics is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple.
S. Gudder
Six is a number perfect in itself, and not because God created the world in six days; rather the contrary is true. God created the world in six days because this number is perfect, and it would remain perfect, even if the work of the six days did not exis
