a b c d e are distinct numbers. if (75-a)(75-b)(75-c)(75-d)(75-e)=2299. then a+B+C+D+E =?
Reply Like? Yes | No
mohan bylapudi   11 years ago
2299=11*11*99
so u have to write (75-a)(75-b)(75-c)(75-d)(75-e)=11*19*11
(75-64)*(75-56)*(75-86)*(75-76)*(75-74)=11*19*-11*-1*1
therefore a+b+c+d+e=64+56+86+76+74=356

10 suspects are rounded by the police and questioned about a bank robbery. Only one of
them is guilty. The suspects are made to stand in a line and each person declares that the
person next to him on his right is guilty. The rightmost person is not questioned. Which of the
following possibilities are true?

A. All suspects are lying.
B. leftmost suspect is innocent.
C. leftmost suspect is guilty
a) A only
b) A or C
c) A or B

d) B only

please solve it and explain the procedure...
Reply Like? Yes | No
BHASKAR MANDAL   11 years ago
if we consider the first option then we can find out that all are lying means all the persons right to a person are not guilty. => left most is the left person who is guilty. ( i.e, the first person)

if we consider the b option then nothing can be concluded

from the first option it is clear that leftmost is guilty
so the answer will be option (b) A or C

A sheet of paper has statements numbered from 1 to 40. For all values of n from 1 to 40,
statement n says: ‘Exactly n of the statements on this sheet are false.’ Which statements are
true and which are false?

a) The even numbered statements are true and the odd numbered statements are false.
b) The odd numbered statements are true and the even numbered statements are false.
c) All the statements are false.
d) The 39th statement is true and the rest are false

I request anyone to solve this question and explain me the preocedure..
Reply Like? Yes (1) | No
Ram   11 years ago
STATEMENT 0 : Suppose if one of the 1 to 40 statements is true then that means Remaining statements should be false otherwise statement itself is false which is a contradiction.

Example: if 10th statement is true i.e EXACTLY 10 of the statements on this sheet are false means remaining 30 statements are true and each 30 statements says exactly there no. of statements are false that means 10 th statement is false ----contradiction.

so option a,b are eliminated ( since they are having more than 1 statement is true).

if option is c , that means all 40 statements are false => 40th statement is true which is again contradicts the answer.
so finally we can conclude that only one of the statements is true and remaining are false
this is said by statement 39th that Exactly 39 of the statements on this sheet are false
=> 1-38 statements +40 th statement are false .

This Whole question is played by word EXACTLY which decides whether the statement is true or false

OPTION: d is the right answer

You have Rs.2 with u.You have to play a game in which if u win u will get 1 Re. and if lost you will lose 1 Re.You can lose up to 3 times. But if u get 5 Rs, you are left out of the game. In how many ways is this possible?
Reply Like? Yes (2) | No
Ram   11 years ago
Answer is 111 ( if losing is up to 3 times means i can lose either 3 times max or 2 times or 1 time or no losses in a single game )
no. of losses=no. of winnings + extra 3 winnings to get 5 Rs. and leave the game
( i already have 2 Rs. so i need 3 Rs. to leave the game)
1st strategy: LLL WWW WWW ( 3 losses=3 wins so money is balanced and 3 wins= 3rs to get 5rs and leave the game) ------different ways of this case is possible =[9!/(6!*3!)] = 84
2nd strategy: LL WW WWW
----------------------different ways of this case is possible =[7!/(5!*2!)] = 21
3rd strategy: L W WWW
----------------------------different ways of this case is possible =[5!/(4!)] = 5
4th strategy: WWW (No losses)
-------------------------different ways of this case is possible =1
Total No. of Ways = 84+21+5+1
= 111

The number of ways of rolling a dice where no two numbers probability that no one rolls the same number = 6 x 5 x 4 x 3
Now total possibilities of rolling a dice = 6^4
The probability that a no one gets the same number = 6×5×4×3/6^4=5/18
So the probability that at least two people gets same number = 1−5/18=13/18

12 ltr of 40% acid solution contains 4.8 ltrs of acid.
to make it 60% acid solution we add let us say x ltr of acid

i.e. (4.8 + x) / (12 + x) = 60%
(4.8 + x) / (12 + x) = 0.6
solving this we get,
x = 6

Reply Like? Yes | No
Inline Geek   11 years ago
in case of polygon, sum of interior angle must be multiple of 180.
i.e. 100 + 124 * X must be divisible by 180. we get 100 + 124 * 5 = 720 which is divisible by 180. thus there are 6 interior angle and will have 6 sides, so answer is 6. which is not in any of your options.

suppose there are total of 27 men and women
so 1/3 * 27 = 9 women
=> 18 men
married women = 2/3 * 9 = 6
with children = 1/3 * 6 = 2

=> women with no children = 9-2=7

married men = 1/2 * 18 = 9
with children = 2/3 * 9 = 6

without children = 18-6=12

fraction of women without children = 7/27
and for men = 12/27 = 4/9

first calculate the LCM of 3,4,5,6 = 60
so the multiples of 60 will be divisible by 3,4,5,6
now if we add 1 to the multiples of 60 we will get 1 as remainder
so now for calculating the answer we have to check
(60+1), (120+1), (180+1), (240+1), (300+1), (360+1),and so on is divisible by 7 as in question if divided by 7 there should not be any left item

so when 301 is divided by 7 gives remainder 0
301 divided by 3,4,5,6 gives remainder as 1

301 is the answer

If 97 is multiplied by a certain number, it is increased by 7566. Find the number.
Reply Like? Yes | No
Gitanjali K   11 years ago
let that multiplier be x
97 increased by 7566 means 97+7566.

97 multiplied by a certain number = 97*x.

given, 97 multiplied by a certain number = 97+7566.
so 97x = 97 + 7566
97x = 7663
x = 79
therefore that multiplier is 79.

A shop sells chocolates It is used to sell chocolates for Rs.2 each but there were no sales at that price.When it reduced the price all the chocolates sold out enabling the shopkeeper to realize Rs 164.90 from the chocolates alone If the new price was not less than half the original price quoted How many chocolates were sold?
Reply Like? Yes | No
ronak   11 years ago
Ans = 97.......... price after reduction should be Rs. 1.7
It is given that the price after reduction is more than Re. 1, so it should be between 1 and 2. i.e. Rs. 1.7, as 164.90 is divisible only by 17.

If an item is reduced ny 20% by its price , a person buys 25 more items for rs 1000 . what is the original price of an item ?
Reply Like? Yes | No
NAINA BHARTIA   11 years ago
Let the original price of an item be Rs x.
Total amount= Rs 1000
no. of items bought at original price= 1000/x
new(reduced) price of an item=(80/100)*x=(4*x)/5
now no. of items bought for Rs 1000=(1000*5)/4*x=1250/x
so the difference in the no. of items bought is given as 25
hence
1250/x-1000/x=25
x=10
Ans. The original price of an item was Rs 10
