speed of train =54*5/18 m/s=15 m/s

15=Lt/20 so Lt=300 m

also 15=(Lt+Lp)/36
By putting Lt, Length of train Lp=240 meter

Peter and Paul are two friends. The sum of their ages is 35 years. Peter is twice as old as Paul was when Peter was as old as Paul is now. What is the present age of Peter?

Like? Yes (1) | No
Nomendra Sinha   11 years ago
Ans is 20
Let paul was x year old that time, then peter is 2x year old now.
Now if paul is y year old now, then peter was y year old that time.
Let time is t
So y+t=2x
x+t=y
Given 2x+y=35
By solving, peter's present age 2x=20 year

Other way- let peter's age p and paul's age q
p=2(q-(p-q))
And p+q=35
By solving
p=20 year

If 12 men or 20 women can do a work in 54 days. Then how many days can 9 men & 12 women together to do work ? A) 35 B) 40
shortcut???
Reply Like? Yes (1) | No
Devendra Marghade   11 years ago
B) 40

12 men's 1day work= 1/54 and 20 women's 1 day work= 1/54, so
9 men's, 1 day work=9/(54*12)= 1/72
12 women's, 1 day work=12/(54*20)= 1/90
As 1 day's work of 9 men & 12 women=(1/72)+(1/90)=1/40
So whole work will be completed in 40 days.

3 men or 5 women can do a work in 12 days . How long 6 men and 5 women take to finish the work?
Reply Like? Yes | No
ashvini kumar   11 years ago
since 3 men=5 women
so 6 men=10 women;
in 2nd case we can say 6 men and 5 women or 15 women;
since 5 women can do in 12 days
so 15 women can do in(5*12/15)=4days
Like? Yes (1) | No
MAYANK VIJAYWARGIA   11 years ago
as in first case "or" is mentioned so its 3men can do it in 12 days
5 women in 12 days
by this 1 man in 5 days
1 women in 12/5 days
so 6 men and 6 women in 1/24+1/12=1/8
ie 8 days ans.

if there is profit 25 on one investment and loss of 10% on other investment.Ratio of both investment is 3:2.Overall loss or gain%
Reply Like? Yes | No
Yadhav   11 years ago
let x be the amount .... and invested amount in both fields are 3x and 2x resp...
profit is 25 % so 125*3x = 555x and the loss is 10 % so 90*2x = 180x.....let this be the new amount after invested....
before investing -----------> 100*3x +100*2x = 500x...
to calculate profit or loss = ( 555x - 500x) *100
--------------------- = 11 ( profit )
500x

By alligation rule -

+25 -10
x
x-(-10) 25-x

so, (x+10)/(25-x)=3/2
x=11 (overall profit % )

17) Georage completed 3/5th of work in 9 days with the help of Paul he completes remaining work in 4 days. In how many days Paul alone can finish the work?
Reply Like? Yes | No
Devendra Marghade   11 years ago
30 days

George alone can complete whole work in 9/(3/5)=15 days
As George completes 3/5 of work,
Remaining work=2/5,which is completed by George & Paul in 4 days
If Paul alone can complete the work in 'x' days, then
4( (1/15)+(1/x) )= 2/5
1/x = 1/30 , x=30

SEEMA CANNOT COMPLETELY REMEMBER HER FOUR-DIGIT ATM PIN NUMBER. SHE DOES REMEMBER THE FIRST TWO DIGITS, AND SHE KNOWS THAT EACH OF THE LAST TWO DIGITS IS
GREATER THAN 5. THE ATM WILL ALLOW HER THREE TRIES BEFORE IT BLOCKS FURTHER ACCESS. IF SHE RANDOMLY GUESSES THE LAST TWO DIGITS, WHAT IS THE PROBABILITY THAT SHE WILL
GET ACCESS TO HER ACCOUNT?
1. 1/2
2. 2/3
3. 3/16
4. 1/16
Reply Like? Yes (1) | No

3/16

If last two-digits are 'XY' & digits are greater than 5, then possible combinations of (X,Y) are
(6,6),(6,7),(6,8),..................,(9,9), total 4*4=16
So probability of getting access in 3 tries = 3/16

divide the cicle into 10 equal parts each of 8cm.
Like? Yes (1) | No (1)
Devendra Marghade   11 years ago
4 cm

Perpendicular from the center will divide both the parallel chords in two equal parts, forming two right angled triangle with hypotenuse=radius=20
If perpendicular distance of the longer chord from the center =x, then
x^2+ 16^2= 20^2, x=Sqrt(400-256)=12 &
If the distance between two chords= y, then
(x+y)^2 + 12^2 =20^2,
substituting x=12, we get 12+y =Sqrt(400-144) or y=4

Each plant in a nursery requires 2 liters of water for a day. A water tanker of length 4m, breadth 2m, height 1m brings water once in every day. Find the number of plants for which this water is sufficient?

I NEED COMPLETE SOLUTION PLS HELP ME
Reply Like? Yes (2) | No
Deep Narayan Mojumder   11 years ago
I think Niveditha Ravichandran has already answered it.
First of all, you need to know that, 1 Cubic Meter = 1000 Litres. If you know it, then it is very easy.
According to the given problem, volume of the water tanker = length*breadth*height = 4*2*1 = 8 Cubic Meter = 8*1000 = 8000 Litres.
Given, each plant in a nursery requires 2 litres of water for a day.
Hence, number of plants for which this water is sufficient = 8000 / 2 = 4000. (Answer)

A multiple choice question has 4 options. Choosing the correct option earns the student 3 marks. However choosing the wrong option incurs negative marks so that if a student chooses an option randomly, his expected score is 0. Suppose a student has successfully eliminated 2 incorrect options. His expected score if he chooses randomly among the remaining options is.

(2957^3661) + (3081^3643)
Reply Like? Yes | No
Anand Dwivedi   11 years ago
(2957)^3661
(2957)^3660 * (2957)^1=2957,
so last two digits be 57.
2nd (3081)^3643=(3081)^3640 * (3081)^3=>for last two digits it will be
(81)^1 * (81)^2=81*6561=531441=>so last two digit is 41 than add
sum 57+41=98 will be answer

(80 - 9) years = 71 years. will be Answer

Satya Karteek   11 years ago
Ans is 71..
Because, the sum of their present ages is 80.
If we need to calculate for 3 years back, we have to reduce 3 from each person, so 3*3=9, and 80-9=71 is the answer..

hcf of any number=product of two number/lcm=1690/130=13.
since, its hcf is 13 and lcm is 130 so let two no. is 13x and 13y.
where x and y has hcf as 1 and lcm as 10.
only two solution are there eithe x,y will be (2,5) or (1,10).
thus numbers are (26,65) or (13,130)

can anyone clearly explain the difference between permutation and combination??
Reply Like? Yes | No
saikeerthana   11 years ago
Permutation is making "arrangements". For example If 5 five students seated in a row....permutation tells what all are the different possible arrangements we can make with those 5 five students.....

Combination is "Selection"...selecting 3 students among the 5 or selecting 3 girls from 5 students....like that.....

filsha travelling at the speed of 100kmph reaches her destination in 80 minutes.if she travels at the speed of 125 kmph, inhow many minutes will she reach her destination?....plz answer
Reply Like? Yes (28) | No (6)
Devendra Marghade   11 years ago
64 minutes

If distance=x, then x/100= 80/60=4/3 , x=400/3 Km.
with the speed of 125 kmph, distance x will be covered in (400/3)/125= 16/15 hours
= (16/15)*60=64 min.

no b/w 100 and 1000 is a 3digit no
so 3 digit no having atleast one 6 =Total no of 3digits no-Total no of 3digits no in which 6 is not appear
total combination of 3 digit=I II III
9 x 10 x 10=900(since hundrad place can file only by 1,2.....9 not include 0 if include zero then it becomes 2 digit no hence hundrad place can fill only 9 ways)
no not having digit 6 are (0,1,2,3,4,5,7,8,9) only 9 posibility to file a place accept hundrad place =8x9x9=648

3 digit no having at least one 6=900-648
=252

2 trains 200,160 meters long take a minute to cross each other while travelling in the same direction and take only 10 seconds when they cross each other in opposite directions.what are the speeds at which the trains are travelling?
Reply Like? Yes | No
Devendra Marghade   11 years ago
21 & 15 m/s

distance the trains has to cross in same direction or in opposite direction=sum of the lengths of the trains= 200+160= 360 m.
If speed of the trains= x & y m/s respectively, then
360/(x-y)=60 ---(i) &
360/(x+y)= 10 ---(ii)
On solving (i) & (ii), x=21, y=15
