If 4 examiners can examine a certain number of answer books in 8 days by working 5 hours a day, for how many hours a day would 2 examiners have to work in order to examine twice the number of answer books in 20 days.
The area of a circle inscribed in an equilateral triangle is 346.5 cm^2. Find the perimeter of the triangle. (Use Pi = 22/7 and Sqrt3 = 1.73).
OPtion
1) 102.45 cm
2) 104.33 cm
3) 89.54 cm
4) 108.99 cm
5) 94.35 cm
6) 72.66 cm
7) 112.33 cm
8) 110.5 cm
9) 86.5 cm
10)None of these
Solution
By using figure
The incentre of the triangle is coincident with centroid (as it is an equilateral triangle)
Also I divided AD in the ratio 2:1 (I is centroid)
We have, area of circle = 346.5 cm^2
=> Pi r^2 = 346.5
r^2 = 346.5*7/22 = 110.25
r = 10.5
In triangle ABC
We have ID = AI = 1:2
ID = r = 1/3 AD
Also as triangle ABC is equilateral
AD = (Sqrt3/2)*a (From pythagoras theorem is Triangle ADB)
r = Sqrt3*a/2 * 1/3 = a/2*Sqrt3
a = 2*Sqrt3*r
Perimeter = 3a
= 3*2*Sqrt3*r = 108.99 cm.
Note that the day on which money is deposited is not counted and the day on which it is withdrawn is included.
Oct. Nov. Dec.
Time: 22+30+31 = 73 days
=> 73/365 days = 1/5 years
Therefore
SI = Rs. 1920*15/2*1/5*1/100 = Rs.28.80

OPtion
1) 24 m
2) 7 m
3) 14 m
4) 18 m
5) 22 m
6) 26 m
7) 36 m
8) 39 m
9) 28 m
10) None of these
Solution
area of circular fountain = area of rectangle - remaining area
= 70*65 - 2086 m^2
4550 - 2086 = 2465 m^2
=> 22/7 r^2 = 2464
=> r^2 = 784 m^2
=> r = 28 m
Option 9)
Date on which the bill was drawn = March 8th, at 7 months.
Nominally due date = Oct., 8th
Legally due date = Oct., 11th
Date on which the bill was discounted = May, 18th
Time for which the bill has yet to run
May June July Aug. Sep. Oct.
13+30+31+31+30+11 = 146 days = 2/5 years
Now (i) Banker's gain = S.I. of T.D.
i.e., Rs.3 is S.I. on T.D. for 2/5 years at 5%
=> T.D. = Rs. 100*3 / 5*(2/5) = Rs.150.
B.D. = T.D.+S.I. on T.D.
= Rs.150 + S.I. of Rs.150 for 2/5 years at 5%
= Rs.150 + Rs.150 * 2/5 * 5/100 = Rs.153
Therefor the sum of the bill
Sum = B.D.*T.D. / B.D.-T.D.
= Rs. 153*150 / 153-150 = Rs.7650
Option 8)
The vertical cross-section of a trench is a trapezium, measuring 5 m. across the top, 3 m across the bottom, depth of trench uniform 2.5 m; length of trench 20 m. Find the roughly how many litres of water the trench with hold. (1 litre = 1000 cc)
OPtion
1) 2*10^8 L
2) 2*10^6 L
3) 4*5^5 L
4) 2*10^5 L
5) 2*10^9 L
6) 4*5^8 L
7) 4*10^4 L
8) 4*10^5 L
9) 2*10^4 L
10)None of these
Solution
Area of trapezium = 1/2 * (3+5)*2.5 = 10 m^2
Volume of trench = 10*20 = 200 m^3 = 200*10^8 cm^3
= 2*10^8 cm^3
= 2*10^8 / 1000 = L
= 2*10^5 L
