A and B together Complete the work In 10 days and B and C together Complete the work in 8 days. If B is 20 % more efficient then C. Then in how many days will A and C together will complete the same work?
Reply Like? Yes | No
Devendra Marghade   10 years ago
11 11/39 days

(1/A)+(1/B)=1/10 ----(i) & (1/B)+(1/C)=1/8 ---(ii)
Subtracting (i) from (ii), (1/C) - (1/A) = 1/40
Given B is 20% more efficient than C, So 1/B= (1/C)*(120/100)=6/(5C) ---(iii)
Substituting this value of 1/B or 1/C from (iii) in (ii), 1/C=5/88 and 1/B=3/44
Substituting value of 1/B in (i), we have 1/A = 7/220
1 day work of A & C= (7/220)+(5/88)=39/440
So A & C together can complete the work in 440/39 or 11 11/39 days

LET SOLVE THIS PUZZLE BY UNITARY METHOD-
GIVEN THAT A+B COMPLETE IN 10 DAYS AND B+C COMPLETE IN 8 DAYS
LET US SUPPOSE WORK IS OF 40 UNITS(WHICH IS NOTHING BUT THE LCM OF 10 ND 8)
IF A ND B CMPLT IN 8 DAYS
THERFR THERE 1 DAY WORK=TOTAL WORK / TOTAL DAYS
40/10 = 4 UNITS
AND B+C 1 DAY WORK = 40/8 = 5 UNITS
AND B IS 20 PRCNT MORE EFFICIENT WHICH MEAN 1/5 OF C
B+C = 5 UNITS(1 DAY WORK)
C*1/5 + C = 5
C= 25/11 (1 DAY WORK)
THRFR B = 5- 25/11 = 30/11 (WHICH IS B 1 DAY WORK)
AND U CAN EASILY CALCULATE A FROM
A+B = 4 UNITS
A=4 -30/11 = 14/11 (WHICH IS 1 DAY UNIT WRK)
THRFR A+C = 14/11 + 25/11 = 39/11
THERFORE TO CPMPLT 40 UNITS A AND C MUST WORK FOR = 40/( 39/11) = 11 DAYS (APPROX)

Time Distance and Speed
Hemant and Ajay start a two-length swimming race at the same moment but from opposite ends of the pool. They swim in lane and at uniform speed, but Hemant is faster than Ajay.They first pass at a point 18.5 m from the deep end and having completed one length, each one is allowed to rest on the edge for exactly 45 seconds.After setting off on the return length, the swimmers pass for the second time just 10.5 m from the shallow end.How long is the pool?

Options:
a.55.5m, b.45m, c.66m, d.49m.

Subhash can copy 50 pages in 10 hours.Subhash and prakash together can copy 300 pagin in 40hours .in how much time can prakash copy 30 pages
Reply Like? Yes (1) | No
aman   10 years ago
for subhash i am using s and for prakash i am using p
s complete 50 pg in 10 hr
so s complete 1 page in 1/5 hr

s+p together compete 300 pg in 40 hr
so s+p together complete 1 pg in 2/15 hr

rate = 1/days
let p complete 1pg in x hr
in context of rate:rate for s=5,p=1/x and s+p=15/2

5 + 1/x = 15/2
x=2/5hr so p complete 1 pg in 2/5 hr
so for 30 pg he will take 12 hr

From a square of side 2cm equal triangle is cut from it corners to form a regular octagon. We will get an octagon. What is the area of that octagon?
a) 4(sqrt 2)+8 b) 8(sqrt 2)-8 c) 2(sqrt 2)+8 d) 8(sqrt 2)+4
Reply Like? Yes | No
neha gupta   10 years ago
8(sqrt 2)-8 This is the answer

Let the side of equal triangles be x cm
Each interior angle of a regular octagon is 6*180/8=135
Therefore interior angle of triangle is 45
And thus in triangle AEL length of hypotenuse is
LE=(x^2 + x^2)^(1/2)=(2x^2)^(1/2)=x(2)^(1/2)
Area of octagon=2*area of trapezium KLEJ + area of rectangle EFIJ
2*(1/2)*(2-2x+2)*(x) + (2-2x)*2
=4x-2x^2+4-4*x
=4-2x^2
As octagon is regular therefore:
2-2x= x(2)^(1/2)
X=2/(2+2^(1/2))
On rationalizing we get x=2-2^(1/2)
Putting it in area of octagon expression we get
4-2(2-2^(1/2)^2
4-8-4+8(2)^(1/2)
8(2)^(1/2)-8 ans

Q.Kalmadi can build a stadium in 14 days, while Raja can do the same in 21 days. They started working together.*.Case #1: 3 days before the completion of work, Kalmadi was sent to Tihad jail. So find out Total Number of days to complete the work?*.Case #2: Same question but Raja goes to jail.

Devendra Marghade   10 years ago
1. 15/2
2. 5

1 day work (1/14)+(1/21)=5/42, so expected days needed to complete the work=42/5
3 days before the completion of work=(42/5) - 3=27/5 days, Remaining work=1 -(5/42)*(27/5)=5/14
Case#1: Days required to complete the remaining work=(5/14)/(1/21)=15/2
Case#2: Days required to complete the remaining work=(5/14)/(1/14)=5

A contractor undertake a contract to make a canal of 12 km long in 350 days with the 45 men (employee). after 200 days he found that only 4.5 km canal has been constructed .find the no. of extra men required to finish the contract on time.
Reply Like? Yes (23) | No
vivek kr. chatterjee   10 years ago
45 men worked for 200days to make 4.5 km canal,
so 45*200 = 9000 man working days made 4.5 km canal
so, 1 man working day = 4.5/9000 km canal

remaining days = 350-200 = 150days
remaining work = 12-4.5 = 7.5km

4.5 km canal is made in 9000 days by 1 labour
so, 7.5 km canal is made in 9000 days by 7.5/4.5 labour
so, 7.5 km canal is made in 150 days by (7.5*150)/ 4.5 labours = 250

so extra labours required = 250-45 = 205 ans

4.5 km in 200 days by 45 men
now remaining 7.5 km in 150 days by 45+x men
200*45/4.5 =(45+x)*150/7.5
on solving this we get x=55 so 55 men extra are required

As per the initial ratio of 1:2, if number of white balls & black balls are x & 2x respectively
After adding 9 grey balls number of white,black & grey balls are x, 2x & 9 and ratio 2:4:3
As ratio of 3 for grey balls corresponds to 9 balls, so white balls=(9/3)*2=6 and Black balls=(9/3)*4=12

white and black balls ratio is 1:2.
then 9 gray balls are added to that bag. It means grey balls are 9. after adding the gray balls ratio becomes 2:4:3 as per this ratio 3parts is equal to 9balls so 1part equal to 3balls like that 4(3)=12 black balls and 2(3)=6 white balls

Given there are 9 grey balls are added so that ratio becomes 2:4:3
So, let total no. of balls as y => (3/9)y = 9 => y=27.
Given white balls and black balls ratiio is 1:2 => white balls = x, black balls = 2x.
so, white+black+grey =27
x+2x+9 = 27
3x =18 => x=6.
Then, black balls = 2x = 12.

initially, let white balls=x and black balls be 2x.
then 9 grey balls are added the ratio becomes 2:4:3 i.e white=2y ,black =4y, grey =3y
given grey=9, (i.e) 3y=9 =>y=3
so black => 4y =>4 *3 =12
no.of.black balls =12

Let common factor as 3
Nw by taking 3 as common ratio becomes 1:2
If 9 great balls added than ratio becomes 2:4:3
Multipling by 3 to the ratio we get 6:12:9
So black balls are 12

Total grey ball is 9
Means we have to multiply the above ratio by 3
in order to get 9 balls.
Thus black ball is 4❌ 3 i.e 12

answer:12 grey ball.because 9 grey ball=3 grey ball ratio. so assure 4 black ball ratio = 12 no.of black ball.
from 2:4:3 the white ball is 6,black ball is 12 and grey ball is 9.

after adding 9 grey ball the ratio become 2:4:3
where white ball =2x, black ball =4x & grey ball =3x
here 9 grey ball is added so 3x=9
so, x =3
hence no. of black ball =4x= 4*3=12
therefore, 12 is the answer

From 1:2 => x + 2x = y
From 2:4:3 => 2z + 4z + 3z = 9+y
Since grey balls = 9, therefore 3z = 9 => z = 3
2z = 6 and 4z = 12, which also shows, 2*6 = 12.
number of black balls = 12

therefore no of black balls is 2x
when 9 grey balls are added
ratio becomes x:2x:9 which is proportionate to 2:4:3
from above you can see that x/2 = 2x/4 = 9/3
therefore x=6
so 6 white balls 12 black balls and 9 grey balls are present

let the white and black balls be k and 2k. after adding grey ball we get the ration 2:4:3 which must be equal to k : 2k : 9... only focusing on grey ball we can get that to get the ratio as 3 in 2:4:3,
9 is divided by 3 in k : 2k : 9... so all terms in the ration k : 2k : 9 has been divided by 3.
for black balls,
2k /3 = 4..... so we get, k= 6
so the number of black balls are 2k = 2*6 =12

left side 10
right side 2 fewer
left the last seat
so at right 9*3=27
at left 2 fewer means less than 2 seat so its 1 seat at right so 1*3=3
now the last seat at right holds 1*5=5
so the ans is 35

In left: 10*3=30
In right: 2 fewer seat i.e. no of seat in right = 12
So in right 12*3=36
In last seat 5 people can seat.
so total people= 30+36+5= 71

Hence answer should be 71

Left side seat available = 10*3=30
Right side seat available =8*3=24
Last seat capacity =5

right side 3 people can sit.. excluding last row 9*3-=27
last seat capacity 5... 3 in right..left has 2 cases

if 1 on lef with middle seat pathgap
1*7=7
if 2 on left without path gap
2*7=14

either (27+5+7=39) or (27+5+14=46)

in left:9*3=27
in right:7*3=21
because 2 fewer seats means 2 less than that of
left side seats so there will be 8 seats in right side
last seat is common for both the sides so
no of seats in left side=9
no of seats in right side=7
so excluding last seat total people can sit = 27+21=48
last seat capacity= 5
so total = 48+5=53
53 should be the right ans

total number of seats in a bus is 35 .... by logically speaking last seat is common for both left and right side which contain 5 sit (2 seats are excluded now)..remaining 10 seat hold 30 sit thus totally 35 sits... i think so .. if wrong sorry.
